MESSINA. Una band greca che incide per un’etichetta russa un genere (il black metal) di origine scandinave. E canta (canta, insomma…) dello Stretto di Messina. Si tratta di “Through the Strait of Messina” degli Agos, primo brano del disco “Aonian Invocation”, pubblicato a fine 2018 dalla Satanath Records, etichetta specializzata in produzione di heavy metal estremo.
E’ l’ultima delle canzoni che in qualche modo parlano di Messina, e di certo la più.. estrema. In un tripudio di chitarre ad accordatura ribassata e distortissime, e in un’atmosfera horror, perfettamente adeguata al brutale genere musicale, si staglia il cantato in stile “growl” di Van Gimot, l’unico musicista dietro la sigla Agos, che si è occupato di cantare e suonare tutti gli strumenti del disco. “Il nome Agos deriva dall’antico greco ΑΓΟΣ, che nel tempo ha assunto il significato di “miasma” ovvero “i maledetti dagli dei”, spiega il musicista.E Messina che c’entra? C’entra perchè il primo brano, “Through the Strait of Messina”, parla della leggenda di Scilla e Cariddi, attraverso immagini di mari in tempesta, vulcani che esplodono e… invettive contro la maga Circe, che trasformò una ninfa in Scilla, e di un non meglio specificato “dio del tuono (no, non Thor, ma Zeus) responsabile della trasformazione di una delle Naiadi in Cariddi.
